In the mid 1840s, the Liebig's Extract of Meat Company was the originator of Liebig and Oxo meat extracts and beef stock cubes.  The company was named after Baron Justus von Liebig, the German 19th-century organic chemist who founded it. Liebig produced many illustrated advertising products including games, calendars, postcards, and paper toys. Their trading cards sets usually consisted of six lithographic cards that described an event, or had some historical or geographic theme.
